The Not-So-Big was a BIG hit!

Thank you for registering and/or attending the 2nd annual Not-So-Big Wedding Boutique! It was a jam-packed 3 hours on a gorgeous November day. We hope you got to visit with all 12 teams. Congratulations to Team Cinful, lead by Cindy Jacobs of Cinful Cuisine who took home first prize in this year's Challenge. 2009 Challenge winner Team Carnevale, led by Janice Carnevale of Bellwether Events, picked up 2nd place. And 3rd went to first-time Team Cannon, led by Kelley Cannon of Kelley Cannon Events. Team Cinful takes the win!

Congratulations to "Team Cinful" in 1st place, followed by "Team Carnevale" in 2nd place and "Team Cannon"in 3rd!

What a fabulous end to a fabulous day, thanks for everyone who came out and enjoyed our event!

Want to know a little more about Rockwood Manor?

This charming little Estate is nestled in the woods, comprised of seven different rooms with varying capacities. The house can accommodate up to 300 people altogether in these seven rooms. Maximum capacity for any one combine/adjoining space within the Manor is 130 standing, 120 seated, 110 with seated and dancing. Overnight accommodations include ten hotel-style guest rooms and three climate-controlled cabins. Rockwood provides ample parking, wireless internet access, AV equipment, tables and chairs, as well as two kitchens for your caterer of choice.

Rockwood is ideal for indoor and outdoor wedding ceremonies and receptions. Ceremonies may be held outdoors in Rockwood’s picturesque gazebo tucked into the manicured garden and bowling lawn or inside in Brooke Hall with its soaring ceiling, wooden beams and panoramic view. Follow the ceremony with cocktails on the brick veranda or flagstone terrace. Dine and dance with your guests in the elegant Hoover and Caughey rooms. The Manor can accommodate up to 130 people indoors and, with a tent, up to 200 people outdoors. Rockwood is also the perfect place to host holiday parties and to celebrate anniversaries, birthdays, bar/bat mitzvahs and graduations.

Judging has started and the competition has truly stepped up to the plate to bring our guests a peek into a wedding day that could well be remembered no matter what your limitations may be. Budget after today can no longer be an excuse not to have the wedding of your dreams, after all it is supposed to be your most fabulous day!

The Judges Are Coming! The Judges Are Coming!

Today, Montgomery Parks announces its panel for the Not-So-Big Wedding Boutique. Headed up by Joyce Mnkande, owner of Events2Remember, the panel is comprised of wedding industry professionals, representing the full range of vendors involved in Sunday's event. The judges are:

Joyce Mnkande is the founder an downer of Events2Remember, Inc. She is a member of the International Special Events Society (ISES) where she serves on the board. With a strong background in accounting and as a certified event planner, she has successfully designed, developed, produced, and executed a myriad of events ranging from small intimate events to large cross-cultural, multi-faceted events.


Julie Upchurch is the lead bridal consultant and design specialist at the award-winning Little House of Flowers, located in Gambrills, MD. Since taking over in February 2006, Julie has become the go-to florist for brides of every budget. She has extensive knowledge of flowers, their appropriate seasons and availability.


Denise Thorne is co-owner of InStyle Caterers. Denise has more than 16 years of catering experience. She has served on the DC ISES chapter board as director of Volunteers and Job Bank and co-director on Front Desk and is presently serving as its President.




Janice Harrison is owner of Occasional Cakes. Baking for years, Janice starter her professional baking career after a layoff in 1994. Since then she has been recognized for her talents by a variety of publications. Janice uses her grandmother's recipes and makes everything from scratch.


Andrew Larris, aka "Sir Andrew" has performed and produced entertainment at over 2000 events across the country. His publishing credits include Washingtonian Bride & Groom and American Entertainment Magazine and he has participated in a live online chat with Washingtonian Magazine as an authority on wedding DJs. Sir Andrew is involved in the SEARCH Foundation, ISES, and IACEP.


Dave Fritz is an Account Executive with Cort Event Furnishings. He has over 10 years of experience in the event industry and has served on the DC ISES Board of Directors for four years. Dave is presently serving as VP of Membership for the second year.


Carmichael Q. Jennings is the owner & CEO and lead photographer for On Q'ue Photography, based in Beltsville, Maryland. Mr. Jennings has 17 years experience and specializes in destination weddings. His work has been featured in several industry magazines, and he has produced cover photos for Bride's Day and Perfect Wedding Guide magazines.
